The Manteca Historical Society is celebrating the 20th anniversary of the opening of the Manteca Museum.

The party takes place Sunday, July 15, at 2 p.m. at the museum, 600 W. Yosemite Ave.  Finger foods and beverages will be served.

The old Methodist/Episcopal Church was purchased in 1992. Prior to that, the museum was operating at 214 Poplar Street in the old Scout Hut.

The memorial building that houses additional artifacts and the parking lot were completed in 1999.

The historical society was launched in April of 1989. The group’s mission from the onset has been to establish a museum of local history with everything on display either owned or used by Manteca area residents.

More than 60,000 people have passed through the museum doors since it opened 20 years ago
