Lucky McFall and his committee, who are working to make a big success of the rodeo on July 4, 5 and 6, reported everything coming along all right at the regular meeting of the Firemen Tuesday evening. So far as known, everything will be ready at sun-up Friday morning. Chas. Berry, one of the best-known horsemen in the state, has arrived with 15 wild and wooly horses for the races.

Charges of coercion, harassment and intimidation of employees and denials of such actions were tossed back and forth during Monday night’s city council meeting as representatives of a union sought recognition. Councilmen, following the advice of City Attorney Duane Martin, did not officially recognize the union representatives and such action will probably be pending until  the council adopts guidelines on recognizing employee organizations.

An avid outdoorsman. A faithful husband devoted to his wife. A very caring father. An active church leader whose work with people and especially with the youth was wholly “motivated by his love for God.” That’s how family and friends remembered Manteca Fire Captain Tom Moore, who died Wednesday when he fell 18 feet to the ground during training exercises at the Regional Fire Training Center in Modesto. He was the city’s first fire fighter to die in the line of duty. He had celebrated his 38th birthday last week.
