STOCKTON – When the Tracy American 10-11-year-old All-Star team opened its California Section 6 Tournament All-Star Tournament with three consecutive homeruns the squad looked more than on its way to a first-round win.
Manteca showed championship caliber resiliency, fighting back only to succumb to a 17-16 Turlock American win Saturday at Kelley Field at host Sundown Little League.
Manteca slipped into the tournament’s loser’s bracket, forcing the club into a win-or-go-home reality for the remainder of the double-elimination tournament. Manteca’s next opponent will be Stockton’s Sunrise Little League.
Sunrise fell to Turlock American 12-4 Sunday, dropping them into Monday’s loser’s bracket contest with Manteca.
A victory against Sunrise would put Manteca back on the diamond Tuesday with a rematch against tournament unbeaten Turlock American.
First pitch is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in Stockton.
