The Ripon Lady Cyclones put together a near-perfect run through the DF 2012 All-World Fast Pitch World Series Championship, capturing the second inaugural World Series title.

Ripon got tournament action started off in the right direction, taking three of four games in pool play to earn the No. 1 seed for the championship bracket play. The Lady Cyclones posted a 4-3 win over the Cordova Fury followed by a 7-4 win over MVP. The Lady Cyclones only blemish came on a 5-2 loss to the Lady Bombers where Ripon committed an uncharacteristic five errors.

Ripon responded with an 8-4 win against the Nor Cal Pride to capture the No. 1 seed.

The No. 1 seed provided Ripon with a pair of byes before they opened championship play with a 4-1 win over the MSC Tigers. Kaycee Petersen came around to score on a Jennica Baldwin single and the Lady Cyclones never looked back. They would add runs from Krissy Ramos, Aryanna Martinez and Alexandra Gonzalez to put it away.

The victory ushered Ripon into the title game where they finished with a 4-2 win over the Lady Bombers. The victory atoned for Ripon’s only mishaps in the tournament and gave the squad its second title in two seasons.

Cassie Gasper was the winning pitcher and shared pitching duties throughout the tournament with Mikayla Bongi and Ashlie Siebler.

“This group is one of the best teams I’ve coached in my 23 years of softball,” coach Frank Gonzales said. “As far as being committed to what we believe in and in executing the game plan.

“For being 12 and 13 year-olds, they work tremendously hard during practice.”
