WESTON RANCH – August Knodt School held its 15th annual commencement exercises Thursday, celebrating the promotion of some 122 eighth-grade students.

The special event held at the Weston Ranch High gymnasium signaled the end of year-round education for Manteca Unified.

The promotional event was also the last for Principal Frank Souza, who is retiring effective at the end of this school year. Vice Principal Debbie Forte will step in at the post.

The eighth-grade promotion ceremony, according to blue-track student body president Alexis Kendrix, marks the end of “a great adventure.”

“Now it’s time for us to move on to high school,” she said.

The special event kicked off with the singing of the Star Spangled Banner as performed by Sherilyn Lozano and Devon Woodruff.

Kendrix, Lozano along with Stephanie Flores, Brenda Amboy, Amira Areja, Adriana Barron, Heather Carbonell, Lacey Dacus, Dolapo Esan, Andrew Gonser, Anna Haley, Jesse Hurtado, Manjot Mahil, Eric Mejia, Cheyenne Quinby, Leigh Quismorio, Nicollette Rayray, Sean Visperas and Paige Wilson were among the top academic students, sporting gold cords by achieving a 3.8 grade point average or better.

Students received their certificates for promotion from Norm Knodt, the son of the school’s namesake, and school board members Manuel Medeiros, Evelyn Moore, Wendy King, and Rex Holiday, along with Assistant Superintendent Don Halseth and Souza.
