• SUV plummets from SD mall parking garage : SAN DIEGO (AP) — A woman was injured when an SUV crashed through a barrier and plummeted three stories from a parking structure at a San Diego County mall, landing on its roof onto two parked cars.

The crash happened Saturday at Fashion Valley in the Mission Valley area.

Police Officer Frank Cali says the driver of the BMW X5 said he accidentally hit the accelerator instead of the brake when he was honked at while attempting to exit a parking space.

The newspaper says the SUV teetered for a bit before it flipped, landing upside down on top of a Kia Sorrento and a Mercedes Benz sedan.

Witnesses said the driver, who appeared to be in his 70s, was able to get out of the BMW on his own. His girlfriend, who was a passenger, was trapped in the wreckage.

She was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

• 2 men found bound, shot to death near Patterson: PATTERSON (AP) — Authorities are investigating a double homicide near the Central Valley community of Patterson after two men were found bound and shot to death along the side of a rural road.

Firefighters from the Patterson Fire Department found the bodies after responding to a call a little before 7 a.m. Saturday.

Stanislaus County sheriff’s spokesman Sgt. Anthony Bejaran says investigators have not identified the men.

• Oakland police warn of Craigslist robberies: OAKLAND  (AP) — Oakland police have issued a warning about a series of robberies of people responding to items advertised for sale on Craigslist.

Police say several people have been robbed at gunpoint over the last several weeks after agreeing to meet a person advertising a car or an electronic item for sale.

At least four of the robberies took place this week, including one man who was robbed at gunpoint of $6,500 when he responded to a posting for a car for sale.

Police are recommending that anyone buying something from someone off of Craigslist should meet the seller in a well-populated area.

Police are even offering the police department as a possible meeting location.

• Suspect arrested after Yuba City hostage situation: YUBA CITY  (AP) — Authorities say a suspect is in custody after two people were held hostage by a gunman inside a sporting goods store in the Northern California community of Yuba City.

The the suspect surrendered after taking the two people hostage inside a Big 5 store a little before noon Sunday.

Witnesses at the scene told the station that the gunman had opened fire inside the store, but it’s not known if there were any injuries.
