SACRAMENTO (AP) — The Occupy Sacramento movement is staging a protest over California home foreclosures outside Gov. Jerry Brown's rented Sacramento loft.

The protesters want the governor to order a three-year moratorium preventing banks from foreclosing on homes while mortgage-holders seek loan modifications.

Just two protesters were on the sidewalk outside the downtown loft Monday afternoon, bearing signs that said "Gov. Brown Shut Foreclosures Down." They had gathered about 20 signatures on a petition.

The Democratic governor recently signed legislation to help struggling homeowners, but it does not take effect until 2013. It will require banks to designate one contact per person and bans so-called dual-tracking, in which banks pursue foreclosures while homeowners seek to modify their loans.

The protesters plan to remain 24 hours a day.
