RC Volleyball Camp kicks off in mid-July

The Ripon Christian Girls’ and Boys’ Volleyball Camp for kids in grades 5 through 9 will be held July 14 through 17 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Ripon Christian High School Gym.

Cost is $75 for one child and $50 for any additional child in the family.

The RC Volleyball Camp is coordinated by RC head volleyball coach Tiger Shelton and Delta Valley Volleyball Club coach Richard Chan. Together, they bring nearly 50 years of coaching experience to the camp.

The camp is designed to develop the skills of the beginner to intermediate volleyball player. These skills are essential for the progression into advanced volleyball.

Coach to player ratio will be very low, with many of the varsity girls helping and other college level coaches.

Please make sure your child brings the following: Water bottle with child’s name on it, knee pads if available, proper volleyball attired a desire to learn and a positive attitude.

Every child will receive a camp T-shirt.

Deadline is July 1 for shirt orders or you can pay at the door, but a shirt is not guaranteed.

SIERRA HIGH: Open gym for all Sierra High athletes will be available from 2-3:30 p.m. on the following dates: July 8, 15, 16, 22 and 23.

Tryouts for the school’s freshman, sophomore and varsity volleyball teams will begin Aug. 17. Players must have a sports physical prior to trying out.

EU HIGH
: The East Union volleyball team is holding conditioning Mondays-Wednesdays from 1:45-3 p.m. The schedule will change after July 22. For more information, contact varsity head coach Eryn Bowers at ebowers@musd.net.

LATHROP
The City of Lathrop is accepting teams for its summer softball league. Games will take place on Thursdays at 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. at Valverde Park.

The season will run from July 9-Aug. 27. Cost for registration is $200 per team.

A mandatory managers meeting will take place June 26, 7 p.m. at the Lathrop Community Center.

There will also be indoor soccer pickup games available every Wednesday from 7-9 p.m. at the Lathrop Community Center gymnasium. The registration fee is $10 per person for the entire season, which runs from June 10-Aug. 26. Teams will be formed for weekly pickup games based on the players in attendance.

GOLF
RAYMUS GOLF TOURNEY: The Antone Raymus Golf Tournament, played this year in the memory of Augie Agostini, will take place Friday, July 17 at Manteca Park Golf Course.

The event is sponsored by the Knights of Columbus and the Manteca Children’s Foundation and will be played as a four-person scramble in blind bogey format.

Registration begins at 7 a.m. with an 8 a.m. shotgun start.

All proceeds benefit the Manteca Children’s Foundation.

Tournament fee includes green fees, cart, lunch, snacks, drinks and entry into the raffle.

There will be a $10,000 Hole in one prize, a longest drive prize and a closest-to the-hole prize.

COWBOYS
: The Manteca Cowboys youth football and cheer program will hold its annual Shoot for the Star Golf Tournament Sunday, Aug. 2 at Manteca Park Golf Course. The four-person scramble begins with a shotgun start at 12:30 p.m., and players must check in at 11:30 a.m. Dinner and an awards presentation will start at 6 p.m.

Entry fee is $100 per golfer, and $30 for those who plan on attending only the dinner. Green fees, golf cart, scoring, range balls and dinner-and-door-prizes are covered for participating players.

The tournament will also feature longest-drive and closest-to-the-pin contests, a prize for hole-in-ones, raffles and more.

Registration forms are due by July 24, and a bucket of alcoholic or non-alcoholic beverages will be offered for entries made by Friday, July 3.

SOFTBALL
MAYHEM: Mayhem Fastpitch’s 10-year-old travel ball team is looking to add players to its fall roster. Players must be born in 1999 or 2000.

FOOTBALL
JR. BUFFS: The Manteca Jr. Buffaloes youth football organization will hold sign-ups for football on July 7 at 6 p.m. at Curran Grove Park, and a Jr. Buffs Passing Camp will take place July 7, 8 and 9 from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

REBELS: The Delta Rebels youth football and cheer organization will hold signups on July 2 and 11.

Signups will take place at the Manteca Library’s McFall room from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Times for the final date, July 11, are 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

A $10 discount is available for early registration and/or signing up each additional sibling.

Delta has four teams ranging in ages 6-14.

SOCCER
BUNKO NIGHT: The Manteca Futbol Club’s under-17 Extreme team is holding a bunko night fundraiser Friday, July 10.

A $25 donation includes appetizers, dessert, beverages, three games of bunko and a chance to win a door prize. Raffle tickets for a gift basket will go for $1 each or six for $5 at the door.

Doors will open at 6:30 p.m., and games will run from 7-9:30 at the MRPS multi-purpose room on 133 N. Grant Ave. in Manteca.

MANTECA FC: Manteca Futbol Club is looking to fill roster spots for many of its younger teams.

The under-11 girls Arsenal 98 is welcoming potential players to attend its practices Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Chadwick Park. MFC RED DEVILS: The MFC Under-10 Red Devils girls soccer team invites any interested players looking to join the squad to practice sessions which resume August 4.

AIS: Ambassadors In Sport is returning to Manteca to sponsor a California soccer camp, July 28-Aug. 1 at Northgate Park.

This will be the 6th annual camp for children ages 6 through 14.

The camp is assisted by members and coaches from Crossroads Grace Community Church and the East Union High soccer program.

Life principles from the Bible and character in competition will round out the introductory and competitive development of the skills and strategies of the game of soccer.

The afternoon/evening camp allows families to watch from the sidelines in the shade. The camp is limited and last year reached capacity.

It will include a ball, shirt and prizes.

The camp cost is $65 until June 23 and $70 after.

PUMAS: The Manteca Pumas United soccer club will be holding tryouts on today, Friday, Monday and Tuesday at Bella Vista Park in Manteca.

BLD TOURNEY: Big League Dreams will hold its first July 4th Indoor Soccer Tournament July 3, 4 and 5 in the BLD indoor arena.

This is a U.S. Club sanctioned tournament for age groups U8 through U14.

SHS CAMP: The 12th Annual Sierra High School Soccer Camp will take place July 28 through July 31 from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at Sierra High.

The camp is for children ages 5 through 17 of all skill levels. Players will be divided by age and skill in order to best improve each player’s skills and techniques. There will also be separate training sessions for goalkeepers. The goalkeeper session will be during the same time as the field camp, so please indicate whether your child will be participating in the field or keeper sessions on your registration form. Gloves and jerseys for keepers are not required, but are recommended.

Camp directors, Sierra varsity girls head coach Manuel Pires, and Sierra varsity boys head coach Jose Montes, will actively participate in instruction. Additional camp staff will include both past and present members of the Sierra boys and girls teams as well as competitive club coaches. Collegiate players and coaches may also be on hand participating in camp instruction.

The camp is designed to improve the skills, performance, and enjoyment of the game while also developing a better understating of the game of soccer. Daily activities include fundamentals, skills/technique training, rules of the game and skill development games.

Camp registration is $55 per player and includes a T-shirt and ball. Please mark T-shirt size on registration form. Please make sure each child comes with adequate water, shin guards and cleats.

Registration fees are used to fund the soccer programs at Sierra high school. The camp has been the main fundraiser for the boys and girls soccer programs at Sierra and has provided instruction to 100 to 200 campers each summer.
