FULLERTON (AP) — A twice-recalled Southern California councilman is giving it another try.

Former Fullerton Councilman Don Bankhead is one of three council members ousted in June in the wake of an uproar over the way the city handled a fatal confrontation between police officers and a mentally ill homeless man.

Bankhead is now among 12 candidates vying for three empty council seats in the November election.

The Orange County Register (bit.ly/P1mRnv) says Bankhead joined the race just before Wednesday's filing deadline. He says he's unsatisfied with the current council majority.

Bankhead has been tossed from office before.

He was among three council members recalled in 1994 for voting in favor of a 2 percent utility tax. He was voted back into office a month later.
