RIPON — Danny Vos once struggled at quarterback.

“I couldn’t throw to save my life,” he recalled that time prior to last year’s successful campaign at Ripon Christian High.

Under the tutelage of Randy Fasani, the former Stanford quarterback with some NFL experience to boot, Vos flourished as the season went on.

By the time RC reached the playoffs, the 6-1, 190-pound Vos was reading defenses and making the right throws. He was also comfortable with his throwing mechanics.

“I was seeing my progressions (or receiving targets),” Vos recalled at a recent summer practice. “The ball just flung out of my hand.”

All told, he passed for 1,800 yards, completing 129 of his 269 attempts and 18 touchdowns.

Vos and junior Andrew Brown spearhead the 2012 Knights.

Brown, who is listed at 5-8, 180 pounds, was one of the most prolific scorers in the state as a sophomore.

He’s accustomed to playing both offense and defense, from the opening kickoff to the fourth-quarter gun.

“We have six guys here who are out there all of the time,” said Brown, who is coming off a year where he scored 38 touchdowns, including 28 rushing (210 carries for 1,718 yards) and six receiving (34 catches for 566 yards).

“I’ll play where I’m needed,” added Brown, who is also a scoring threat on special teams.

In addition, he had five interceptions, including two returned for scores, and tallied 40 all-purpose touchdowns.

Entering last season, the RC coaching staff took a calculated risk in moving Brown up from the JV to the varsity squad.

In the end, the numbers told the story.

Brown and Vos are both key figures for RC football.

They’re gunning for second-straight appearance to the Sac-Joaquin Section Division VI playoffs.
