RIPON— Cole Herrin just returned from Elite 11 Quarterback Camp.

The Ripon High senior had a chance to display his pass-catching skills as a receiver invited to the camp consisting of the top 24 prep quarterback sin the nation.

Herrin, who led the Indians in scoring a year ago, was thrilled just to get invited to the regional competition held this summer at Redondo High.

“We did plenty of catching, running and hand-eye coordination drills,” Herrin said.

He earned the opportunity to work with the top signal-callers in the country by being selected to the first-ever Receiver Tech RT25 competition.

Herrin caught 35 passes for 487 and nine touchdowns for last year’s Indians.

He and Anthony Baciocco are expected to spark this year’s Indians. They are starting cornerbacks for the team’s stingy defensive unit and playmakers in the Wing-T offense.

Baciocco is a 5-8, 165-pound senior running back. He’s coming off a season where he reeled off 1,021 rushing yards on 146 attempts while scoring five touchdowns.

Baciocco was also a threat catching the ball out of the backfield, hauling in 22 receptions for 487 yards and eight TDs.

Like Herrin, he’s entering his third year playing varsity football. The two are three-sport athletes.

Herrin and Baciocco will move from football to basketball in the winter. In the spring, Herrin switches over to golf while Baciocco plays baseball.

But it’s on the gridiron where the two display their versatility.

Herrin is strong on pass coverage on defense, where he also displays his ball-hawking skills. He had three interceptions last year to add to his school-record tally that started as a sophomore.

He also handles the place kicking and punting chores.

Baciocco returned punts, kickoffs, and tallied 25 stops at his cornerback position.
