Jags blank Bears to stay unbeaten

The Manteca Jaguars varsity youth football team improved to 2-0 in the Cen-Cal Junior Football League with Saturday’s 33-0 shutout of the Merced Bears at Sierra High this past Saturday.

Seuseu Alofaituli led an efficient ground attack with 138 yards and a touchdown on just seven carries. Marcos Castillo strolled into the end zone twice and carried five times for 68 yards. Brendan Arreola added five carries for 30 yards and a TD and also converted a 27-yard field goal.

Tydus Verhoeven made his presence felt in special teams and the passing game. He recovered a fumble for a turnover on a kickoff return and later caught a 25-yard pass from Gerson Gomez.

Eddie Santos paced the defense with eight tackles, and Gomez returned an interception 35 yards. Orlando Biggs and Alofaituli chipped in four tackles apiece.


Jason Aucello’s 18-yard pass to Jesus Gomez represented one of the few highlights for the Jaguars’ young squad.

Zane Salgado and Marcus Brennan each collected seven tackles to lead the defense. Four of Brennan’s stops went for losses, while Salgado recovered a fumble. Alfredo Ramirez caused a pair of fumbles and had two tackles.

DYFL varsity

Jr. Spartans 13, Chargers 12

Quarterback Julian Cantu and Raylen Carter-Belvine each rambled for over 100 rushing yards as Lathrop edged its Manteca rivals in Delta Youth Football League action.

Cantu churned out 134 yards on 14 rushes while completing seven of 13 passes for 73 yards. Carter-Belvine punched in both of Lathrop’s TDs and rushed 12 times for 122 yards. Keanuu Linell contributed 22 yards on five carries.

Defensively, Chandler McIntosh racked up seven tackles (three for losses), Peter Solorio had six and Julian Chavez five.

Junior varsity

Jr. Spartans 28, Chargers 12

Michael Ramos anchored the Jr. Spartans offense with 90 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 10 attempts.
