The Manteca Fire Department’s senior volunteer program, known as Seniors Assisting Fire Efforts (SAFE), promoted a longtime supervisor to the Commander position.

Pfirmann was one of the pioneers of the innovative program and has served as Supervisor of the SAFE Prevention Division since the conception of the program, where he oversaw efforts with fire inspections, weed abatement, and assisting the Fire Department with school talks. In his new position he will be the top volunteer in the program. The new role will help streamline operations and functions of the senior volunteer effort that is in its 3rd year of operation with over 30 members.

Pfirmann has a long history in the Fire Service even before moving to the city of Manteca. He started as a volunteer for the Oceanside Fire Department in Long Island, New York, when he was 18 and served in various roles for many years including Chief of the Department for two years. Bob moved to California in 1975 and to Manteca in 1996. He has served the community also as a Seniors Helping Area Residents and Police (SHARP) member with the Manteca Police Department. Bob has been married to his wife Connie for 56 years and will soon turn 80 years old.
