East Union knew coming into the week that it would likely encounter the first challenge of the Valley Oak League season. The Lancers answered the call, drubbing the visiting Sonora Wildcats 232-275 Tuesday in at Manteca Park Golf course.

East Union got an impressive round from freshman Brooke Riley, who turned in a 41 for medalist honors. Teammate Angelique Cardoza was as impressive, playing through injury to record a 7-over-par 44.

“Today I was real happy with Angelique,” East Union co-head coach Dennis Wells said. “Shooting a 44 with a bad wrist was impressive. Also Brooke did great in her first real big match.

‘Overall, we are pleased but we know we have to get a ways lower and it’s going to take some time.”

Jordan Vinson turned in a 45, while teammates Brittany Ugalino (50) and Kimmie Lamar (52) followed her. Brianna Perkins was the Lancer throw out score with a 54.

Sonora was led by Rachel Rosasco’s 44.

Weston Ranch 342, Lathrop DQ

The Cougars put together a solid showing in their match against Lathrop, getting a medalist-honors earning round from Jonelle Mungcal in their victory over the Spartans.

Mungcal shot a 47 on the front nine at Van Buskirk Golf Course in Stockton, finishing ahead of teammate Lydia McDonald.

The Spartans did not field a full team, but got a leading round of 78 from Stephanie Rock.

Valley Foothill League

Ripon 167, Linden 212

The Indians had little trouble doing away with Valley Foothill League’s Linden High, dropping the Lions by 45 strokes Tuesday.

The Indians got a sterling round from junior Sienna Starck, who turned in a two-over-par round of 33 for medalist-honors. Teammate Haylee Fannin followed Starck with a 37, which was as impressive in her bout through injury.

Hailey Rae Rose shot a 46 and Erin Weaver shot 51 on the par-31 Jack Tone Golf Course front nine.
