Buffaloes edge Central Valley to improve to 7-0

In a matchup that pitted Manteca High against perennial Sac-Joaquin Section qualifier Central Valley, the Buffaloes didn’t budge in a huge 2-1 non-league win over their former Valley Oak League mates.

Manteca (7-0) fell behind with a Central Valley goal in the 18th minute. The Hawks were rewarded with a call in the box and converted on the penalty kick. They stayed ahead until the 31st minute, when Manuel Nuno tied it at 1-1.

The game would stay knotted until the 60th minute when Brandon Landwehr put Manteca up for good.

“Obviously, they have a really good team and they’ve got a lot of guys that play club together,” Manteca head coach Justin Coenenberg said. “They’re able to dominate possessions and pass the ball very well, but my guys just battled.

“We didn’t quit and we kind of hung around and then made the most of our opportunities.”

Jonathan Portillo dished out the assist on Landwehr’s goal.

Abdiel Chiquito was big for the Buffaloes in the net. Asserting himself as a dominant force with 13 saves on Central Valley’s 23 shots on goal. The Buffaloes made god on their limited opportunities, converting two goals on just eight shots.



Edison 4, Weston Ranch 2


The Cougars fell behind Edison 3-0 in the first half of play and could never recover, dropping the non-league matchup 4-2 Tuesday in Stockton.

Hector Maldonado put home a penalty kick in the second half, giving Weston Ranch its first points of the contest. Edison would add another goal to go back up 4-1 and the Cougars would get a meaningless goal from Bobby Cisneros for their final points.



Ripon Christian 6, Big Valley Christian 2


The Knights scored early and often, handling Big Valley Christian with ease in the two clubs’ non-league matchup Tuesday.

Paul Cho to David Yu set up the Knights first score just three minutes into the contest. A Danny Vander Molen corner kick to brother Jon Vander Molen led to a goal a the Knights back on the scoreboard after a Lions goal.

Ripon Christian would get a pair of second half goals from Danny Vander Molen and Jeremy Sonke to complete the scoring.

The Lions got both their goals from Connor Armstrong in the loss.



Ripon 4, Argonaut 0


The Indians turned what was a close 1-0 match at the half into a blowout behind three second half goals Tuesday in non-league action.

Ripon (2-3) used a goal and three assists from Jack Brierly to push past Argonaut in the final 40 minutes.

The Indians got goals from Matthew Uecker, Arik Anaya and Alex Torres in the win.



Turlock 3, East Union 1


The Lancers went into halftime tied 1-1 with the host Bulldogs, but could not muster any second-half offensive in a 3-1 loss Tuesday to Turlock.

East Union collected a first half goal from Alfredo Solorzano, but could not find the back of the net again.

The Lancers will kick off action in the Lincoln Tournament Friday when they meet up with host Lincoln for an 8:30 a.m. match.
