East Union’s girls golf team continued its early-season roll Wednesday, crushing Sierra by nearly 50 strokes, 233-282.

Lancer freshman Brooke Riley was low medalist for the second straight day and third overall. She beat out teammate Angelique Cardoza by two shots with a 4-over-par 41 on Manteca Park Golf Course’s front nine under muggy and sometimes-rainy conditions.

“I’m pretty happy with Brooke and Angelique, they shot some pretty solid scores,” East Union coach Dennis Wells said. “But overall, there were signs that we have to keep working hard at it. There were a lot of strokes we left out there.”

Brittany Ugalino pitched in the third best score of 47 from the third grouping. Kimmy LaMar and Jordan Vinson each carded a 51 to round out East Union’s score.

Sierra, meanwhile, is off to an 0-3 start but has showed itself capable of competing for one of three Sac-Joaquin Section Division IV playoff spots. The Timberwolves’ previous losses were on Sonora and Kimball’s home courses.

On Wednesday, third-year player Elia Vasquez paced Sierra with a 48. Lexus Barnes (50), Melanie Kiesel (58), Vanessa Rodriguez (62) and McKenna Doyle (64) followed.

East Union takes on both Weston Ranch and Lathrop today at Stockton’s Van Buskirk Golf Course.
