Got an extra $1,000 to spare and the desire to meet Vice Presidential candidate Paul Ryan?

You’re in luck.

On Saturday, the Wisconsin Congressman and Republican Presidential nominee Mitt Romney’s running mate will be in Fresno at a $1,000-a-plate fundraiser to help build the campaign war chest heading into the final stretch of the campaign.

Romney made a pit stop at the Sanger-area home of rancher John Harris back in May and picked up a cool $1 million for what was a two-hour engagement.

While Republican Presidential politics are generally left out of The Golden State – historically regarded as an easy electoral boost to Democratic candidates – the Central Valley has been gaining some prominence in recent years as a place to tap for resources.

Longtime GOP supporter and fundraiser Alex Spanos hosted then President George W. Bush at a campaign fundraiser for gubernatorial candidate Bill Simon in 2002. John McCain made a brief stop at Spanos’ jet center for an impromptu rally four years ago.

Romney pulled in more than $200 million in donations in the months of June and July and fundraising efforts are likely to step up as advertising blitzes start rolling out and campaign staffs swell.
