When the East Union girls golf team walked off the par-36 front nine at Van Buskirk Golf Course, the team not only had put together its best round of the season, but also gave a brief glimpse at the expected potential this year’s group of Lancers hold.

East Union turned in an impressive round, rolling past the Weston Ranch Cougars 212-343 Thursday in Stockton. Freshman Brooke Riley continued her impressive debut on the high school scene, turning her third consecutive medalist-honors earning round of 37 to lead the club.

Angelique Cardoza was not too far behind with a 41 and Brittany Ugalino followed her with a 6-over-par 43.

“This is actually the best that they have played all season,” East Union co-head coach Dennis Wells said. “We were happy with everybody, even our throw-out score in (Brianna) Perkins who shot a 50 with an 11 on a hole.”

Jonelle Mungcal was tops on the scorecard for the Cougars, closing out her round with a 49.

Kimball 272, Manteca 291

The Buffaloes put together a decent run at the Kimball Jaguars, but Manteca came up short in a 19-stroke loss Thursday in Valley Oak League play.

“Overall our girls played pretty well,” Manteca head coach Greg Conway said. “This is our lowest team score of the season, which is a good sign.”

Brooke Mejorado was the Buffaloes lowest score with a 51, while Caitlyn Leppere (53) and Kaylie Grimes (55) followed her. Nicole Brown (65), Dominique Graham (67) and Katie Hankins (71) rounded out the scorecard.

Ripon Christian 181, Calaveras 221

The Knights grabbed their second win of the season in a comfortable victory over Calaveras Thursday.

Jenny Wickham shot a 5-over-par 36 for medalist-honors. Vanessa Vallo (43) and Robyn Reyes (48) were the other two Knights to finish in the 40s. Stacie Darretta shot a 54 and Kaitlyn Groshong and Lauren Hogan finished with a 56 and 57, respectively.
