Manteca High graduate and former Major League Baseball player Ken Huckaby will return home Aug. 3 and 4 for the No Errors Fundamental Camp hosted by Big League Dreams sports complex in Manteca.

Huckaby hosted the Baseball Boot Camp alongside Manteca Baseball Softball Academy owner Greg Wilson and April, and inclement weather didn’t cooperate fully.

This time around, rain clouds won’t stop campers from learning from the 18-year professional veteran, or several other former big leaguers Huckaby has enlisted as instructors.

Cost of the camp is $110 for children 8-years-old and up, and it includes both days of the camp, which will include sessions that run from 8 a.m. to noon.

Campers will also receive a No Errors baseball cap.

No Errors, which produces top-of-the-line baseball bags and apparel, is well-known throughout Huckaby’s home state of Arizona. The company will have a trailer and several representatives on hand to introduce itself to Central California, home to some of the best baseball talent in the country.

“No Errors approached me during one of my son’s (Little League all-star) sub-section games about sponsoring camps,” Huckaby said. “With their defensive approach to the game, and what I hope to accomplish with my camps, we felt it would be a good relationship.”

Former New York Yankee and two-time World Series champion Clay Bellinger will be on hand, as will former Texas Ranger Jason Conti and former San Francisco Giant Jamie Brewington, among others, and it’s the big leaguers’ unique experience that makes a Huckaby-hosted camp so special for area players.

“The last camp was a different format,” Huckaby said. “With the bigger numbers at Big League Dreams, we can have eight, nine, ten players at a station and delve into everything, from hitting and pitching to outfield and infield defense.

“We can cover everything over the course of the two days and let the kids experience it all.”

Kids will also have an opportunity on both days to continue private lessons with the former pro ball players at MBSA following the action at BLD.

“Ken brings (to a camp) intangibles that aren’t easily explained,” Wilson said. “Just Little League myths, like why a catcher has to have his off-hand behind his back. Of the 50,000 pitches (Huckaby) received (in his career), he always had his (off-hand) on his thigh, and he was hit twice. When the hand is on the thigh, it’s ready for a block, or a receive-and-throw.

“It’s the little things that Ken brings that you would never think about.”
