LATHROP — Deputies arrested three men in Lathrop Monday evening after receiving reports of shots being fired around 6:15 p.m. near the intersection of Shilling and Cedar Valley Drive, according to Sheriff’s spokesman Deputy Les Garcia.

Within a minute of the call officers arrived in the neighborhood and observed a vehicle driving recklessly near Julie Lane and O Street.  Before deputies could catch up with the vehicle,  it stopped at the corner of Suzie Q and Samoa streets where they observed Jorge Ornelas jump out of the passenger door. He reportedly ran into a residence in the 16100 block of Suzie Q, Garcia said.

The driver Raymond Duran was taken into custody and a perimeter of deputies was set up to capture the other suspects.  A citizen called reporting hearing someone on his roof which turned out to be a firearm that had been discarded by the suspects.

Jorge Ornelas and Louis Moreno were apprehended a short time later in the 300 block of O Street as they were attempting to flee the area in another vehicle.  Garcia said the deputies learned that Louis Moreno had given the firearm to Jorge Ornelas to retaliate for an unreported brandishing of a weapon.

Duran was charged with 10 felonies including the discharge of a weapon at a vehicle or dwelling with gross negligence regarding the safety of the occupants and street terrorism.  His bail was set at county jail for $1,195,000.

Ornelas was charged with eight felonies including shooting at a dwelling and conspiracy with bail levied at $1,078,000.

Moreno was charged with four felonies and two misdemeanors including conspiracy and street terrorism.  Moreno’s bail was set at $553,000.  All three are scheduled to appear in the Manteca Branch of the San Joaquin County Superior Court in French Camp today at 1:30 p.m.
