Sierra gets free win from Oakdale

Sierra High’s girls golf team got its first win of the Valley Oak League season the easy way Wednesday by just showing up with a full team.

The Timberwolves carded a 283 at Manteca Park Golf Course’s par-37 front nine. Visiting Oakdale were two players shy of having the requisite five to post a legal team score.

Lexus Barnes was low medalist with a 48, while Elia Vazquez recorded a 55. Melanie Kisel (58), Vanessa Rodriguez (59) and McKenna Doyle (63) rounded out the team score.

Dylanie Donahue paced the Mustangs with a 53. Sierra (1-3) looks to make it two straight at Van Buskirk Golf Course today against Weston Ranch.

Sonora 284, Weston Ranch 348

At Van Buskirk Tuesday, Rachel Rosasco and Tallon Popovich finished 1-2 with 47 and 49 scores, respectively.

Jonelle Mungcal led the Cougars with a 57, while Lydia McDonald’s 58 was a season low for her on the par-36 front nine. First-year players Taylor Mar, Amira Areja and Gwenavere Brown also dropped strokes.
