The Ripon Chiefs varsity team edged the Lodi Colts in Saturday’s DYSA NorCal football action played at the newly remodeled Stouffer Field.

In the 9-6 victory, the Chiefs relied on their defense to come through late in the fourth quarter in this hard-fought battle.

Thomas Sidtikun opened the scoring, nailing a 37-yard field goal.

Matthew Dedonatis accounted for Ripon’s lone touchdown. His score was setup by quarterback Logan Orlando – thanks to some stellar blocking by the offensive line led by Nic Paschini – connecting on passes to Rhet Herrin, Andrew Durer, Alex Padilla and Dedonatis on the drive.

The Chiefs’ defense was sparked by Luis Candido, Zach Bailey, Luke Navarro, Adolfo Sanchez, and Kory Wengel.

Ripon (2-2) will host the Galt Junior Warrior this weekend.

Defensively, Nick Myers and Nate Morrow played strong, as did Tyler Harris, Anthony Sanchez, Donnie Fontillas, Brenden Windorski, Cody Raichel (interception), Michael Solario (fumble recovery) and Sexton.

Cabe McCusker tallied three touchdowns to lead Ripon (3-1) to a lopsided win.

He scored on runs of 20, 35 and 10 yards.

The Chiefs jumped out to a big lead, recovering an onside kick early on – Tommy Campbell came up with the loose ball – and cashing in moments later on Justin Swilley’s touchdown.

Kicker Nathan Valdez was again successful on an onside kick, with Trendon Arriola pouncing on the ball.

A 15-yard run by Derric Roy followed up by 10-yard quarterback keeper by Dorian Dougherty helped setup McCusker’s first score.

Roy also had a 40-yard touchdown run.
