In recent seasons the matchup between the East Union and Oakdale golf teams has held great significance in the Valley Oak League standings. That likely will not be the case this year as East Union cruised to a 70-stroke win Thursday at Manteca Golf Course, 217-287.

East Union is taking steps in fine-tuning its program and they are working. The Lancers put together one of their better round of the season, finishing with four rounds in the 40s on the par-37 Manteca Golf Course front nine.

“We’re definitely getting there,” East Union co-head coach Dennis Wells said. “We are seeing a lot of improvement and we are real happy with what we’ve seen.

“We still have a lot of room for improvement, so we can really get better.”

Brooke Riley and Angelique Cardoza both snatched medalist-honors with rounds of 40, while Jordan Vinson followed the pair with a 41. Kimmy Lamar shot a 46 and Brittany Ugalino a 50. Brianna Perkins was the throw out with a 54.

The Buffaloes were able to cruise past the Weston Ranch Cougars with relative ease Wednesday in VOL action.

Brooke Mejorado was able to get back on track with a medalist-honors earning round of 48 she shared with Caitlyn Leppere. Kaylie Grimes followed them, trailing by a single stroke with a 49.

Weston Ranch was led by Jonelle Mungcal’s 52.
