Father of murder suspect tried for molesting girls

SAN JOSE . (AP) — The father of a man charged with killing a 15-year-old Northern California girl is now on trial for molesting two female relatives.

Santa Clara County prosecutors say 51-year-old Genaro Garcia Fernandez began fondling the primary victim when she was 4 years old and he raped her when she was just 7. He's charged with 18 sex crimes.

The San Jose Mercury News says the molestations took place in the same San Martin home where his 21-year-old son Antolin Garcia-Torres grew up.

The younger Garcia-Torres is being held without bail pending trial for the death of Sierra LaMar.

The Morgan Hill teenager went missing in March and her body was never found.

Authorities say the girl's DNA was found in his car and his DNA was found in her handbag.

Three face charges after cutting off in-law's hair

SAN RAFAEL . (AP) — Police say three relatives in Marin City are facing charges after a bizarre family feud ended with them cutting off an in-law's hair.

The Marin Independent Journal reports that 38-year-old Chau Nguyen, 33-year-old Hong Nguyen and 29-year-old Thao Nguyen apparently wanted the woman to stop meddling in family affairs.

Police say that a 35-year-old San Rafael woman told them the Nguyens forced their way into her house on Saturday and took her cell phone, slapped her and held her down while cutting her hair off with scissors.

Space shuttle Endeavour to fly over Bay Area

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — San Francisco Bay area residents are slated to be among the last Americans who will get a chance to see the space shuttle Endeavor before it retires in a Los Angeles museum.

The shuttle is expected to fly near the State Capitol building in Sacramento just after 8:30 a.m. on Friday before passing over the Bay Area about an hour later. However, the times may change depending on weather.

The California Highway Patrol says prime places to watch the fly-over include the Exploratorium in San Francisco, Lawrence Hall of Science in Berkeley and Monterey Bay Aquarium.

The Endeavor logged more than 123 million miles in its 25 trips over two decades.

The California Science Center in Los Angeles, the shuttle's new home, agreed to pay $28 million for the farewell tour.
