Shorthanded Cowboys improve perfect record

In NorCal All-American Football Action last Saturday, the Manteca Cowboys’ varsity squad played shorthanded against the West Coast Junior 49ers.

No matter. They won, 14-0, improving their season mark to 6-0.

Angel Sena accounted for both scores. Included was a 3-yard toss to Carlos Maltez and his 1-yard run.

Offensively, Miguel Lopez and Maltez tallied 44 and 38 rushing yards, respectively, and Jake Larkin had 50 receiving yards.

Miguel Lopez spearheaded the defense with six tackles. Julian Lopez had four stops while Pawl Johnson came up with three tackles.

Sena, in addition, collected three tackles and recovered a fumble.

 

Junior varsity

Cowboys 13, West Coast 0

 Devin Young’s 47-yard scoring run in the first quarter propelled the Cowboys to an early lead.

He finished 107 yards on seven carries and delivered seven tackles on defense.

Kyle Wesley, who connected on both extra points, secured the win by hauling in Matthew Ender’s 37-yard TD toss in the fourth quarter.

Wesley also rushed for 116 yards on nine carries. On defense, he had six stops and an interception.

Jake Harries and Justin Kakala paced the Manteca defense. They finished with 13 and 10 tackles, respectively.

 

Rookies

Cowboys 34, West Coast 14

Presley DeMello had two first-half touchdowns, including a 75-yard kickoff return to pace Manteca.

Tied 14-14, the Cowboys made some changes that paid off in the second half.

Quarterback Manuel Rodrigues connected with Jovani Oliva on a 15-yard scoring strike and Kimoni Stanley helped seal the deal with two more touchdowns.

He finished with 107 yards on 10 carries. DeMello had 102 yards on 10 pops while Oliva tallied 98 yards on seven attempts.

On defense, Ismael Munoz led the way with nine tackles, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. Matthew Dunham and Oliva chipped in with four tackles apiece.

The Cowboys, who improved to 6-0, will take on the Keyes Bees this weekend.

West Coast 26, Cowboys 18

Alex Scoz had 142 yards on 25 carries, scoring three TDs in the loss to West Coast.

Bryant Davis rushed for 27 yards in five pops.

Noel Ruezga had a fumble recovery and tackle to pace the Cowboy defense.
