All three candidates vying for the Manteca Unified School District Area 1 vacant seat and the would-be appointees for Areas 5 and 3 will be featured in Thursday’s Meet the Candidates Night.

The event, to be held from 6 to 8 p.m. in the school district board rooms 101-103, 2271 W. Louise Avenue, is hosted by the Manteca CSEA (California School Employees Association) Chapter #50. Moderator will be Janet Dyk of Manteca, a member of the San Joaquin County Office of Education Board of Education and coordinator of AgVentures program. She is also a retired MUSD employee.

The evening’s agenda will include a self-introduction portion by the school candidates, their positions on various hot-button issues, plus a question-and-answer period.

The only election action taking place in the three district areas with vacancies this November elections is Area 1. The seat is open because incumbent Rex Holiday has decided not to run for re-election. Vying to succeed his post are Alison Ordner, Sharla Moore and Sam Frant.

The other two seats that are vacant because of the incumbents’ term ending the end of the year are Area 5 currently represented by Wendy King, and Area 3 with incumbent Michael Seelye as the representative. Both Romero and Seelye are running unopposed so they will be automatically appointed to their respective seats.

The public is encouraged to attend the Candidates’ Night, hear what the candidates have to say, and ask questions. Light refreshments will be served.

Election Day this year will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 6.
