91 MUSD students post perfect STAR test scores

 The Manteca Unified School District Board of Education will be recognizing the first half of the total number of students who posted perfect scores in the 2011-12 school year STAR testing on Tuesday, Oct. 9.

The recognition ceremony will be held prior to the regularly scheduled board meeting and will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the district office, 2271 W. Louise Avenue, corner of Airport Way.

Receiving their recognition certificates that evening will be half of the 91 students district-wide who scored 600 in one or more of the STAR subjects during the previous school year. The second half will have their recognition before the start of the regular board meeting on Tuesday Nov. 13.

The California Standards Tests, or CSTs, serve as a gauge to show how well students are doing in relation to the state content standards. STAR subjects include English Language Arts and mathematics in grades two through eleven; science in grades five, eight, and nine through eleven; and, history-social science in grades eight, and 10 through 11.

During the school 2011-12, the school district showed a bumper crop of students who achieved a perfect score of 600. During that year, the numbers of students who earned perfect scores according to school were: George McParland Elementary, 12; Veritas and Woodward elementary schools, 10; New Haven Elementary, 9; Stella Brockman Elementary, 8; Joseph Widmer, Jr. Elementary and Manteca High, 6; Brock Elliott, Komure and Nile Garden Elementary, and Weston Ranch High School, 5; Mossdale and Joshua Cowell Elementary, 4; August Knodt Elementary (Weston Ranch), 3; East Union High, French Camp, Golden West, Neil Hafley, Lathrop and Shasta Elementary, 2; and Sierra High, Lathrop High, Sequoia, and Lincoln Elementary, 1.

Each of the students with perfect STAR scores will receive a Certificate of  Recognition from the school district.

Following the presentation of certificates will be the regular board meeting at 7 p.m.
