It wasn’t easy for Weston Ranch, but the Cougars were good enough to get it done.

Weston Ranch beat Lathrop in three games, winning 27-25, 25-23 and 25-22 Wednesday in Valley Oak League action.

The Cougars were led by Candisse Griffin’s 10 kills and four aces. Griffin also made significant impact on defense for the Cougars. Aolini Etu dished out 19 assists and six aces, while Audreanna Bigornia pulled out 11 digs. Alex Marapao pulled out 18 digs for the Cougars, while Taylor Holiday had a block and four kills.

Former Cougar coach Carey Simoni filled in for head coach Chris Bauer, who is attending a wedding this week.

The road won’t get any easier for the Spartans as they are scheduled for a meeting with the Oakdale Mustangs, while Weston Ranch will host the Kimball Jaguars.

The Buffaloes were unable to keep pace with Kimball, falling in three games Wednesday in VOL play.

The Mustangs were able to jeep things relatively close in the initial game, dropping it 25-21 before dropping the final two.

Abigail Behler had four kills, Ashley Gase had six assists, while Morgan Miramontes led the club with a pair of aces. Kijana Nicols was an asset at the net, pacing the Buffaloes with three blocks.
