Peewee Jaguars use balance to dispatch Sabercats

The Manteca Jaguars defeated the Waterford Sabercats 20-6 in last Saturday’s Peewee Division of the Cen-Cal Junior Football League NFC Division.

The Jaguars came with new additions to backfield – Derion Chavez and Miles Drew, who contributed with 60 yards on the ground collectively while contributing with some great blocking – and got a lift from the offensive line.

Dominic Rea racked up 101 yards rushing and a touchdown. He also tossed a 40-yard TD pass to Zelmar Vedder, who rushed for 37 yards.

Quarterback Lorenzo was 4 for 4 passing and rushed for 22 yards.

Jameri Wayne tallied 33 yards and Leonardo Bonilla pounded his way in for an extra point.

Bonilla, on defense, contributed with eight tackles.

Manteca kept the pressure on the quarterback, with Wayne coming through with three sacks and Aaron Craig adding two more. Andrew Matos, Jason Steele and Jesse Miranda, who also recovered a fumble, each had a sack.

Angel Grajeda recovered two fumbles while Alonzo Drew delivered three open field tackles.


Jaguars vs. Waterford

Jamari Hodge scored three TDs while rushing for 221 yards on nine carries for Manteca.

The Jaguars offensive line paved the way for the ground game to amass 388 yards and five TDs.

On defense, Ricardo Villalvazo had a tackle, a forced fumble and an interception.

Zane Salgado added three tackles while forcing a fumble and recovering another.


Junior varsity

Delta Rebels 26, Dublin 12

The Delta Rebels are now 5-2 following their Delta Youth Football League road victory over the Fighting Irish.

They also improved their playoff chances.

Quarterback Delvon Bradford paced the attack. He completed 5 of his 8 passes for 70 yards including a touchdown to Junior Ballard.

Bradford also rushed for 60 yards and a touchdown.

Michael Frisby tallied 128 yards on the ground and a TD. Christopher Contreras also contributed with a score.

Derrick Range came through with a crucial interception on his own 5. Tyler Brently, Isaac Rosales, Ballard and Range had sacks accounting for big losses.

The Rebels will host the Hayward Monarchs this weekend.
