Cowboys still perfect following shutout win

The varsity squad of the Manteca Cowboys improved its mark in the NorCal All-American Football League to a perfect 8-0.

The Cowboys accomplished that mark by rolling past the Central Valley Jets last Saturday, 20-0.

Carlos Maltez led the way, rushing for 187 yards on eight carries and scoring twice. He found the end zone on runs of 65- and 1- yards.

Domingo Vargas had a touchdown, scoring on a 6-yard run. He also gained 25 yards on six attempts.

Quarterback Angel Sena completed passes of 10- and 25- yards respectively to Deon Mackson and Frankie Porter.

On defense, Maltez led the way with four tackles. Julian Lopez, who also had an interception, along with Sena and Mackson chipped in with three stops each.

This weekend, the Cowboys will take on the Weston Ranch Ravens, who are also 8-0.

Junior varsity

Cowboys 29, Jets 0

Devin Young had two touchdowns and 145 total yards from scrimmage for Manteca.

He finished with 78 yards rushing and 67 yards receiving.  In addition, Young helped out on defense with four tackles.

Kyle Wesley and Jake Harries also had TD each.

Desha Henderson and Christopher Mart paced the defense. Henderson had a team-leading nine tackles while Mart finished with five stops including a safety.

In addition, Seth Owings delivered on a pair of sacks while finishing with six tackles. Harrison Heath and Le’fonzo Mackson were also credited two sacks and four stops.

Matthew Pilkay and Anthony Martinez had four tackles each.


Cowboys 27, Jets 6

Manteca racked up 215 yards on the ground with Alex Scoz accounting for 116 yards on 12 carries and a TD.

Quarterback Cruz Richer picked up 54 yards on two attempts and a score. He also completed a two-point PAT to Angell Ramirez.

Bryant Davis gained 27 yards on six carries while Aaron Rayevich had 18 yards on six pops and a TD.

Defensively, Noel Ruezga led the Cowboys with nine tackles. Ryan Torres was credited with five stops, Beto Escoboza had three tackles, and Alex Cervantes and Mario De La Rosa both had two stops.

In addition, Robbie Larkin recovered a fumble and Scoz chipped in with an interception.


Cowboys 24, Jets 6

Manteca will take on the Weston Ranch Ravens this Saturday in a battle of the two 8-0 teams.

The Cowboys kept their perfect record intact with a win over Central Valley.

Quarterback Manuel Rodrigues managed the first score, taking advantage of the wedge set up by Presley Mello and Kimoni Stanley. Mello and Stanley rushed for a combined 60 yards on that first-half drive.

In the second half, Stanley scored twice, with the first coming on a 30-yard run followed by a 50-yard dash to the end zone.

Jovani Oliva finished with 20 yards and a TD.

Nicco Cedolini led the Cowboy defense with seven tackles. Julian Scoz had five tackles and an interception to help set up Oliva’s scoring run.

DeMello also had five tackles and a fumble recovery. Vincent Gomez, Frank Clark and Romeo Mahan each had four tackles.
