Lady Buffs close in on outright Valley Oak title

One more win and it’s all theirs.

The Lady Buffaloes of Manteca High’s girls tennis team routed Kimball in Tracy Monday 8-1, as they clinched at least a share of the Valley Oak League championship. The title is the team’s seventh in school history — five coming in the 1980s, and the latest in 1990.

Adaeze Nkwocha came from behind to beat Kimball’s Viel Salgarino 5-7, 6-4, 10-5 in the most closely contested match of the day, this one coming at No. 3 singles. Kimball’s lone point was recorded by its No. 3 doubles team of Julie Toe and Sara Kim, who defeated Elizabeth Tolbert and Katie Inderbitzin 7-6 (7-2), 6-1.

Rosa Zou dispatched Kimball’s Krishna Sankara 6-3, 6-4 in the No. 1 singles match. Wendy Lin (6-4, 6-1), Weley Lin (6-0, 6-2), Jenny Yu (6-1, 6-1, Noha Elabed (6-1, 6-0) dominated.

In doubles, Kaile Hunt and Liz Diaz coasted to a 6-1, 6-1 win, while Julia Saling and Sealy McAdams were in full control en route to a 6-0, 6-1 triumph.

Manteca will go after the outright crown today at East Union before capping the regular season against Oakdale.

East Union 7, Weston Ranch 2

In Stockton, Chelsea Olitan edged East Union’s Rebekah Jacobson 1-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) in the top singles matchup, and Abigail Balingit prevailed at No. 4 singles 6-3, 6-1 for Weston Ranch’s other point.

East Union (4-5) won two three-set matches. At No. 2 singles, Brooke Niendorf got past Delarine Barut 6-3, 5-7, 10-8. The Lancer No. 3 tandem of Olivia Vezaldenos and Laura Cotton came out on top in super sets 4-6, 10-7, 10-8.

Also winning for EU were: Amanda Lopez (6-1, 6-0), Nikki Reichmuth (6-2, 6-1), Madeline Romero (6-4, 6-4), Maddie Ysalva-Amanda Dart (6-2, 6-3) and Deanna Baker-Victoria Vezaldenos (6-4, 6-4).
