LATHROP — A drive-by shooting at 8 p.m. Tuesday night in the 200 block of Shilling Avenue in Lathrop led deputies to a suspect some three hours later.

Sheriff’s spokesman Deputy Les Garcia said that during the investigation officers were able to identify a possible vehicle of the shooter as a 1997 Chevy S 10 pickup, green in color, with a tool box and occupied by two Hispanic males.

Garcia said patrolmen searched the area for the suspect vehicle with negative results.

Later during the shift, deputies located the pickup truck parked at a residence in the 13400 block of Forestwood Way.  It was occupied by Nathan Brown, 18, Garcia reported.  During the search of the vehicle, deputies located a loaded assault rifle.

Brown was arrested and booked on four felonies including street terrorism and possession of an assault rifle.  As of press time Brown had not been charged with the shooting.  The investigation into the shooting is continuing and the possibility of the shooting being gang related has not been ruled out, Garcia noted.

He is scheduled to appear today at 1:30 in the Manteca Branch of the San Joaquin County Superior Court.  Brown is being held in the San Joaquin County Jail in French Camp in lieu of $450,000 bail.

No one was injured in the shooting, deputies said.
