RIPON — A hand gun valued at $1,200 was taken from an unlocked case at the Barnwood Arms gun shop in Ripon last Thursday with the suspect walking out of the store without being noticed by the clerks.

Ripon Police First Sergeant Steve Merchant said the man in his 40s and approximately 6 feet tall had taken a Springfield EMP 1911, 9 mm pistol and concealed it on his person.  Employees noticed the theft a short time later and called police after reviewing their video surveillance camera.

The theft suspect was said to be about 180 pounds with close cropped brown hair.  He reportedly had tattoos including a full-sleeve tattoo on his lower left arm.  He was wearing a gray 49’ers T-shirt, long red shorts and black shoes.

Anyone with information about the felony gun theft is being urged to call Detective Matt Ford at 209-599-0254 or the Ripon Police Department information tip line at 209-599-7847 or 599-RTIP.
