Newspaper sues for release of LA teacher ratings

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Los Angeles Times is suing the Los Angeles Unified School District to obtain its teacher ratings.

The newspaper says it wants to obtain confidential ratings for more than 10,000 math and English teachers. The ratings are based on how well students do on standardized tests.

The Times has tried to obtain the names and scores of the instructors but the district has refused, saying it could be an invasion of privacy.

Jessica Biel, Justin Timberlake marry in Italy

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel tied the knot at a seaside resort in southern Italy.

The Borgo Egnazia resort declined to comment Friday about the superstar nuptials.

The couple released a statement to People magazine saying, "It's great to be married, the ceremony was beautiful and it was so special to be surrounded by our family and friends."

The 31-year-old Timberlake and 30-year-old Biel got engaged in December after dating for several years.

Timberlake, who has been acting more than singing lately, stars in the Clint Eastwood baseball film, "The Trouble with the Curve." Biel stars in the remake of "Total Recall." She will next be seen in "Hitchcock."

Bear attacks woman walking her dogs near Ojai

OJAI . (AP) — A woman played dead and escaped with minor injuries when a bear attacked her as she walked her dogs in Ventura County.

State Fish and Game spokesman Andrew Hughan tells the Los Angeles Times the confrontation north of Ojai Friday let the woman with scratches and a minor wrist injury.

The dogs ran off and the woman rolled down a hill and play dead until the bear lost interest. Hughan says after sniffing and circling her, the bear ran away.

There  have been 16 confirmed bear attacks in California since 1980. The most recent was in 2003 in Mono County.
