Fales leads San Jose past UTSA

SAN ANTONIO (AP) — David Fales threw for 279 yards and three touchdowns as San Jose State defeated UTSA 52-24 Saturday.

Fales completed 17 of 26 passes, including scoring throws of 36 yards to Noel Grigsby, 36 yards to Tyler Ervin and 6 yards to Ryan Otten. Grigsby had four catches for 110 yards, and Ervin added a 92-yard kickoff return for a touchdown among his 214 all-purpose yards.

The Spartans (5-2, 1-1 Western Athletic) forced three turnovers in the first quarter — one on a fumble that Chris Kearney recovered in the end zone — to lead 28-0 at the end of the period.

UTSA (5-2, 1-1), which finished with six turnovers, had 412 yards of offense. Ryan Polite completed 20 of 32 passes for 302 yards and two TDs.

Fresno State defeats Wyoming 42-14

FRESNO  (AP) — Derek Carr threw for three touchdowns to lead Fresno State to a 42-14 victory against Wyoming on Saturday night.

Robbie Rouse ran for 91 yards on 20 carries for the Bulldogs (5-3, 3-1 Mountain West). He became the first player in school history to surpass 4,000 yards rushing in a career.

Brett Smith threw two touchdown passes for the Cowboys (1-6, 0-3), but completed just 18 of 38 passes for 158 yards. He was intercepted by Phillip Thomas, who returned it for a TD — the fifth time Fresno State has done that this season, a school record.

Carr was 32 of 48 for 268 yards, and Davante Adams had 11 receptions for 86 yards.

In the first half, Rashad Evans caught a 6-yard touchdown pass and returned a punt 78 yards for a score as the Bulldogs built a 35-0 lead at intermission.

Northern Arizona defeats UC Davis 21-7

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) — Zach Bauman rushed for 122 yards and caught a 25-yard touchdown pass, leading Northern Arizona to a 21-7 victory over UC Davis on Saturday.

Austin Shanks broke open for a 78-yard TD run for Northern Arizona (6-1, 4-0 Big Sky). Courtney Grossart threw the TD pass to Bauman, and put the Lumberjacks on the board first with a 17-yard scoring pass to Nick Cole with 1:16 left in the first half.

UC Davis (3-5, 2-3) did not score until 8:05 remained in the game, on a 2-yard run by Courtney Williams.

Defensive back Anders Battle led Northern Arizona with 14 tackles and a forced fumble, and the Lumberjacks came up with a pair of interceptions, by Lucky Dozier and Devin Willis.

E. Washington holds ff Sacramento State 31-28

CHENEY, Wash. (AP) — Vernon Adams and Kyle Padron combined for 342 yards passing and three touchdowns, leading Eastern Washington to a 31-28 victory over Sacramento State on Saturday night.

Coach Beau Baldwin wanted to play both quarterbacks, and each delivered. Adams was 17 of 21 for 169 yards and two TDs for the Eagles (6-1, 5-0 Big Sky). Padron finished up, going 9 for 16 for 173 yards, including a 52-yard TD pass to Brandon Kaufman that put Eastern Washington up 31-21 with 11:22 left in the game.

Kaufman had six catches for 102 yards, while Greg Herd caught nine passes for 109 yards and two TDs.

Sacramento State (5-3, 3-2) was outgained 454-288 in total yards, but stayed close by going 8 for 14 on third-down conversions. The Hornets pulled within 31-28 on a 6-yard pass from Mason Magleby to T.J. Knowles with 3:05 remaining, but didn't get the ball back until there was 21 seconds remaining.
