LATHROP – The Veterans Memorial Wall at the Manuel Valverde Park in Lathrop will be the setting for the annual Veterans Day observance to be held Monday, Nov. 12, starting at 11 a.m. The public is invited.

The program’s guest speaker is Master Sgt. Trisha Backers, U.S. Air Force (ret.), superintendent of Social Actions. Previously, she also served as an Equal Opportunity & Treatment and Human Relations specialist.

Members of the Lathrop High School JROTC color guard will do the posting of colors at the start of the program. Music will be provided by the Lathrop High School choir.

The backdrop to the Veterans Day observance is the memorial wall which pays tribute to all the service men and women in all branches of the military, and was built to honor Lathrop’s own service members who paid the ultimate price for the freedom of their country and fellow men and women.

The granite memorial is located next to the Lathrop Senior Center and parking lot, and is adjacent to a rose garden and Valverde Park’s interactive water feature. The memorial wall and its surrounding features were all part of the more than $4 million expansion and beautification project of this community park which was completed a few years ago. The park is located at 15557 Fifth Street in Lathrop’s historic Old Town District.
