Climate change presentations take place Friday

Douglas Grandt a member of Al Gore’s Climate Realty Team will be presenting “Climate Leadership in your Daily Life” on Friday, Nov. 16.

The two presentations will be held at Prestige Senior Living located at 1130 Empire Avenue, corner of Louise and Empire Avenue. The first one will start at 3:30 p.m. The second one will be at 7 p.m.

The presentations could not be timelier with storm Sandy causing havoc on the East Coast. The storm caused human tragedies, physical destruction and damage beyond one’s imagination. On a global scale there has been the ocean temperature increases, ice cap melting and ocean levels rising. Inhabitants of the low lying islands in the South Pacific are threaten with evacuation because of the rising ocean waters. It’s a new normal.

What happens globally affect people in the San Joaquin Valley. The air in the San Joaquin valley is worse than in the Los Angeles Basin. The incidence of asthma in our population is increasing at an alarming rate; especially in the children’s population. They valley’s dependence on fossil fuel is constricting a healthy life style.

The City of Manteca is in the process of addressing air quality updates and energy saving solutions. This is done because of state mandate Assembly Bill 32 and Senate Bill 375 known as the Global Climate Change Solution Act of 2008. Successful implementation of SB375 is designed to hopefully lead to healthy, vibrant, prosperous and sustainable communities in the valley.
