A young motorist with the last name of Ayraud led Manteca Police on a high speed chase at about 9:30 p.m. Sunday before shearing off a power pole, rolling his stolen vehicle and being taken to county jail.

The first name of the suspect was unavailable.  He was booked into San Joaquin County Jail and released from custody, police said.

Officer Josh Luis initiated the chase at North Main Street and Lancaster Drive in Manteca. It was a chase that led officers northbound onto Highway 99 at speeds nearing 100 miles an hour in pursuit of a white Chevy Trailblazer as patrolman Dave Brown joined in the pursuit.

The fleeing motorist reversed his course at Arch Road near the Stockton Airport and headed back southbound on Highway 99 toward Manteca.  Police said he attempted to exit at Lathrop Road and lost control of the vehicle on the off ramp of the vehicle that had been taken in Tracy.  The car sheared off a power pole and rolled over.

Ayraud was arrested for felony evading of an officer, auto theft, driving without a license and driving under the influence, according to Public Information Officer Jason Hensley.  A passenger in the car was not arrested, police said.
