DF deputy arrested for robbing bank

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A San Francisco sheriff's deputy has been arrested and charged for allegedly robbing $1,700 from a bank.

San Francisco District Attorney George Gascón says 46-year-old Philip Chun Tong was arrested Friday on suspicion of robbing a Bank of America branch in the city's Richmond District. Tong has been charged with one count of robbery and one count of burglary.

Prosecutors say Tong entered the bank at 4:47 p.m. Nov. 7, gave a demand note to the teller and left after he got the cash. Police investigators identified Tong as the suspect through surveillance video and fingerprints on the demand note.

Gason says Tong's alleged conduct is "deplorable and will be met with serious consequences."

The San Francisco Sheriff's Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment Friday.

Berkeley sued for negligence in man's killing

BERKELEY(AP) — The family of a man beaten to death by an intruder 15 minutes after calling police for help is suing Berkeley for negligence.

Sixty-seven-year-old Peter Cukor called police on a nonemergency line in February to report a stranger in his garage.

The Alameda County lawsuit filed Thursday says police didn't show up and suspect Daniel Jordan DeWitt eventually knock down and dragged Cukor to his front yard where he was beaten to death with a large flower pot.

DeWitt has been charged with murder.

Berkeley police were focused on Occupy Oakland marchers at the time of the attack.

Teen arrested in Vallejo elderly sexual assault

VALLEJO  (AP) — Police say a 14-year-old California boy is in Juvenile Hall for the attempted murder, kidnapping and sexual assault of a 65-year-old woman.

Vallejo police Lt. Jim O'Connell says the woman was leaving a shopping center store Thursday evening when the teenager forced her into her minivan at gunpoint and drove to a remote area near Interstate 80.

The lieutenant says she was then sexually attacked. Officers found her bound with duct tape and unconscious in a ditch as the teen fled in the minivan.

The teenager was arrested and a replica handgun was found in the minivan.

He is in custody at the Solano County Juvenile Hall.
