We must put our trust in God as nation’s founders did

Editor, Manteca Bulletin,

Although George Washington recommended a day of Thanksgiving and prayer to Congress, Thanksgiving did not become an official holiday until Abraham Lincoln declared that it be celebrated on the last Thursday of each November.

Abraham Lincoln really loved America, and he had much wisdom for our nation. He said that if this nation ever fell, it would be from within, and that “America is great because she is good, and if she ceases to be good, she would cease to be great.”

Lincoln tried to prevent the Civil War, but when the war came to pass and became such a tragedy, he said it was because as a nation we had forgotten God.

With all the tragedies that have happened in American the last several years, it would be good to remember what a great nation we have been given, and thank God for the freedom we have enjoyed, which came with such great sacrifice.

The founders of our nation put their trust in “Almighty God.” And we must do that too. Then we, as a nation, will be safely protected, as we have in the past.
