Do you know of a place where your child can be safe, have fun and get homework assistance?

The Give Every Child A Chance (GECAC) free After School Advantage Programs (ASAP) provides a safe, structured, and enjoyable after school program to students in elementary school. ASAP is currently being offered in Manteca Unified School District at Shasta French Camp, Golden West, Sequoia, Lincoln, and Lathrop Elementary schools. Other sites GECAC oversees include El Portal Middle School in Escalon, Park View Elementary in Ripon, and Banta Elementary in Banta. ASAP programs are offered in communities throughout South San Joaquin County. Any student enrolled in the aforementioned schools is eligible to participate. ASAP offers three components: Homework Assistance/Support; Enrichment Activities, and Recreation/Physical Education.

During the summer, applications were mailed to 1st through 6th grade students attending the aforementioned schools, inviting them to register for the programs, and will be accepted throughout the school year. Space is limited at each site and registration is based on a first come, first served basis. Response to the early application enrollment has been tremendous and each of the sites looks forward to starting the school year at their maximum attendance.

Over the past six years ASAP has increased in growth, assisting more and more students every year. Assistance was provided to an overwhelming 3,064 students during the 2008-2009 school year. This was an increase of over 550 students from the previous year.

For more information on the programs offered at GECAC, go to www.gecac.net or contact the program office at 825-7003.
