Two new faces will officially join the Manteca Unified School Board of Trustees on Tuesday, Dec. 4.

Sam Fant, representing MUSD Area 1 which covers Weston Ranch, and Deborah Romero who will be the trustee for Area 5, will be sworn in during the school board meeting that evening. The third trustee to be installed will be Area 3 representative Michael Seelye who will mark the beginning of his third term.

The three trustees will be sworn in by San Joaquin County Superior Court Judge Tony Agbayani of Manteca. The swearing in ceremony will be held just before the start of the board’s regular meeting that evening at 7 o’clock. It will be preceded by the presentation of colors by members of the Manteca Unified JROTC honor guard.

The installation ceremony will be held in the board room at the Manteca Unified School District office, 2271 West Louise Avenue at the corner of  Airport Way.

Fant, 23, of Weston Ranch won the three-way election for Area 1, which covers the Weston Ranch Area, when he defeated the two other candidates, Sharon Moore and Alison Ordner, in the November 6 elections. He will succeed Rex Holiday who decided not to seek a second term of office to concentrate on completing his doctorate studies.

Seelye is automatically appointed to another four-year term because no one else ran to challenge his candidacy in the Nov. 6 elections.

Romero’s name on the ballot was likewise cancelled so she is automatically being appointed to her new post because no one else filed election papers for the district’s Area 5. She succeeds Wendy King who decided not to run for another term.

The remaining four members of the seven-panel school board will have their terms expire in 2014. They are Area 5 Trustee Evelyn Moore who is president of the board, Don Scholl who is also an Area 5 Trustee and is the board vice president, Manuel Medeiros of Area 2, and Nancy Teicheira of Area 4.

Among the first actions of the newly empanelled board will be to name a new clerk of the board to succeed outgoing Holiday who currently holds that title.
