Knights blast Hilmar in Riverbank Tourney opener

The Ripon Christian Knights opened the Riverbank High Ron Peterson Tip-Off Tournament with a solid showing, getting nine players in the scoring column during a 77-43 blowout of the Hilmar Yellowjackets Thursday.

The Knights (1-0) were led by the hot hand of Jon Vander Molen, who led all scorers with 27 points. Teammate Dan Vander Molen chipped in with 13 and Dan Vos added 11. Vos sank three of the Knights’ seven 3-pointers and Jon Vander Molen nailed two.

Clayton Blankers also made his presence felt, finishing in double-figures with 11.

Ripon Christian will be back on the court in tournament action at 7 p.m. when they meet up with the Calaveras Redskins in second round action. The winner earns a berth in the tournament championship Saturday at 7 p.m.

Girls

Ripon Christian 59, Waterford 17

Ripon Christian bounced back from a dismal performance in the Escalon Lions Club Invitational opener to blow out Waterford High 59-17 Thursday.

The Knights got a huge effort from Tegan Manus who led all scorers with 20 points. Manus also added nine rebounds, five assists and eight steals to pace the club.  Kaylie Colyn finished in double-figures with 13.

The Knights will be back in tournament action at 5 p.m. when they take on the Bear Creek Bruins.

Sophomore

Ripon Christian 35, Escalon 24

The Knights were able to fend off the host Escalon Cougars in Lions Club Invitational action, beating the hosts 35-24 Thursday.

Elizabeth Regusci led Ripon Christian with 10 points and five assists, while Elise Regusci and Pam Radach both added eight. Radach also pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds.

The Knights will battle Bear Creek High in the tourney championship at 8 p.m.
