RC playing for Riverbank title tonight

Ripon Christian’s boys basketball team used a 16-6 third-quarter run to race away from Calaveras 55-46 in a winners-bracket semifinal of the Riverbank High Ron Peterson Tip-Off Tournament.

The Knights (2-0) will take on the tournament host in the championship game tonight at 7.

“We got on a little bit of a roll there (in the third quarter),” RC coach Ron Vander Molen said. “We had pretty balanced scoring and played good defense, and Dan Vos took charge down the stretch.”

Vos finished with a game-high 16 points and eight assists. Jon Vander Molen was also key in crunch time, hitting six of seven free throws on his way to 14 points and eight rebounds. Dalton Koslosky contributed 10 rebounds and three steals.

Kyle Gouveia and Wyatt Madrid scored 12 and 11 points, respectively, to lead Calaveras (1-1).


Bear Creek 37, Ripon Christian 36

Ripon Christian (1-2) capped the 36th Annual Escalon Lions Club Invitational with a heartbreaking loss. The Knights had a chance to win it at the end but were off the mark on an 8-foot jumper at the buzzer.

Teagan Manus paced the Knights with 15 points, six rebounds and five steals.

Sophomore girls

Bear Creek 43, Ripon Christian 20

Ripon Christian fell in the championship game of the Escalon tournament despite 14 rebounds from Pamala Radach.

The offense struggled throughout, getting five points from Nicole Graham and four more from Elise Regusci.
