Parade, breakfasts, & sing-a-longs mark season this weekend

The Christmas season kicks off in earnest today in Manteca with the 40th edition of the Twilight Christmas parade.

The 5 p.m. procession runs from Library Park to Manteca High along Yosemite Avenue in downtown Manteca.

Also on tap this weekend:

• HANDEL’S MESSIAH: The Ripon Oratorio Society will present the 67th performance of Handel’s Messiah this Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Immanuel Christian Reformed Church on the corner of 4th Street and Orange Avenue. Soloists include Joe Rykert, David Hess, Jennifer Champeaux, and Kelsi Schuller. Bob De Ruiter is the director with David Douma at the organ and Barbara Viss at the piano. Robert Stone is the trumpeter. The choir has over 100 singers. A freewill offering will be taken.

: Breakfast with Santa and Mrs. Claus is today from 8 to 11 a.m. at Manteca Presbyterian Church, 275 N. Main St. It includes crafts for sale, drawing for Christmas baskets throughout the morning, picture with Santa and Mrs. Claus, and great food. Price is $5 per adult, $3, 6 to 12 years old, and free for 5 and under.

: The St. Vincent De Paul Society presents Christmas Omelet Eggstravaganza, Sunday, Dec. 2, 8 a.m. to noon at St. Anthony’s gymnasium. The cost is $8 for adults $8 while children (10 and under) are $4 and can be purchased at the door.
