RIVERBANK - Everything went right for the Ripon Christian Knights during the first two games in the Ron Peterson Tip-Off Tournament, but in the championship against tournament host Riverbank the Knights were unable to bounce back from an early deficit in a 52-42 loss Saturday.

The Knights (2-1) hung close through the first period, but slipped into a scoring drought to open the second. Riverbank continued to score, building a double-digit lead going into halftime after holding Ripon Christian to just six points in the second.

Ripon Christian found a flow offensively, putting up the highest scoring quarter of either team with a 17-point third. The lead was clipped back to single digits, but the Bruins were able to make the free throws down the stretch to secure the win.

Dan Vos had the hot hand for the Knights, leading all scorers with 17 and earning a spot on the All-Tournament team. Teammate John Vander Molen was also named to the tournament’s all-tourney team.

Clayton Blankers finished in double figures with 11.

The Knights earned a berth in the championship following convincing wins over Hilmar and Calaveras in the tourney’s first two rounds.

Kenny Veliz and Rolaun Dunham led the Bruins with 15 and 12, respectively.

The Knights will continue along the nonleague schedule when they kick off action in the Galt Tournament. Ripon Christian will open tournament play against Bear Creek Thursday at 4 p.m.
