Celine Barber amassed 21 points, and Sierra’s girls basketball team used a 24-6 run to blow out host Livingston 56-26 in its second nonleague contest.

It was a solid bounce-back effort from Saturday’s 54-37 defeat at Ripon.

“We probably played better Saturday than we did tonight, but they (Ripon) are really good,” said Sierra coach Steve Unterholzner. “I like for us to play Ripon because it’s always really good challenge. We learned a lot from that and it was a test to see where we need to get better. Today we made some (improvements) and made some mistakes, but I think that was just from us playing with more aggression.”

Freshman guard Katelyn Teixeira complemented Barber with 12 points. Senior center Valerie Nestor also scored 12 in a double-double effort.

Sierra (1-1) opens the Lodi Tournament at 3:30 p.m. Thursday against Buhach Colony.

Lathrop 67, Linden 42

The visiting Spartans (2-0) set a new program record for most points scored in a game despite missing 21 of 40 free-throw attempts.

Besides the poor shooting from the foul line, coach Ed Fang was happy with the effort. Lathrop went on an 18-5 run in the second quarter to stake a 31-15 halftime lead. Linden (0-3) tried to stay in with physical play.

“I was glad that Linden played us that way because it gets us ready for some of the teams we’ll see in tournaments and in league play,” Fang said. “The girls ran the floor well, they set up the offense and we were able to get the shots we wanted.”

Janet Visaya turned in 18 points and six assists to lead the way. Akilah Lesley added 14 points and six rebounds. Briana Fernandez, Loreal Taylor and Jazlyn Simon contributed seven points apiece. Taylor also had 12 rebounds.

Ripon 46, Beyer 34

In Ripon, the Indians improved to 3-0 behind Kelsey Alexander’s 16 points and 10 rebounds. Tia Sidtikun contributed 10 points, and Melanie Wilkerson had eight.

Beyer fell to 1-4.
