The spoils of victory were fittingly divvied out to the tri-champions of the Southern League.

Ripon Christian junior Andrew Brown was among the top honorees, as he was voted Most Valuable player after helping the Knights (6-1, 9-3 overall) produce their winningest season in school history. Waterford standout Dylan Gonzalez is the Most Outstanding Back, and Roman Hernandez of Le Grand is the Most Outstanding Lineman.

The Coach of the Year award is split three ways by Waterford’s Todd Sevick, Le Grand’s Rick Martinez and John Vander Schaaf, who led RC to a piece of its second conference title. The Knights earned the outright championship in the Mountain Valley League under Jeremy Byrd back in 2005.

Brown followed up on his stellar sophomore campaign when he was the Bulletin’s All-Area MVP. The running back and free safety led RC in rushing (1,410 yards, 6.8 per carry, 21 yards), receiving (34 catches, 773 yards, 11 yards), scoring (210 points) and was even 5-of-7 passing for 141 yards and two TDs. Defensively, he recorded 50 tackles and two interceptions.

Four other Knights were all-league first-team selections.

Senior quarterback/outside linebacker Danny Vos, who battled through a knee ailment midway through the season, completed 53.7 percent of his passes for 2,087 yards, 26 yards and 11 interceptions. As the team’s kicker, he converted 25 point-after attempts and two field goals.

Senior Clayton Blankers was also a two-way standout. The 6-foot-3 tight end caught racked up 337 yards and five TDs on 17 receptions, and as defensive end he paced the team with 94 tackles and 5.0 sacks.

Juniors Eric Broker and Spencer Hower are the other Knights earning first-team recognition. Broker, a lineman on both sides of scrimmage, ended up fourth on the squad with 65 tackles and 3.0 sacks. Hower was RC’s second-leading receiver with 32 catches, 548 yards and six touchdowns.

Senior wide out/cornerback Brandon Dotinga (30 receptions, 451 yards, 8 TDs; 5 interceptions) and junior offensive lineman/inside linebacker David Henderson (81 tackles, 2.0 sacks) earned honorable mention.

Ripon Christian’s season ended in the semifinal round of the Sac-Joaquin Section Division VI playoffs, where they were held off 32-26 by top-seeded Foresthill. Le Grand and Waterford met in the Division V finals, with Le Grand capturing a third consecutive section crown, 30-12.
