The Manteca Buffaloes girls basketball team was able to break loose with a 17-point fourth quarter to close their deficit against West High, but it wasn’t enough in Manteca’s 39-34 loss to West Wednesday in nonleague action in Tracy.

The Buffaloes (0-1) struggled offensively for the first three quarters, but found its stroke late and erupted with the highest quarter scored for either team in the contest. Manteca inched along with single-digit scoring in the first (5), second (7), and third (5) quarters before blowing through with the huge fourth.

When the club finally got its rhythm offensively they broke down defensively, allowing West its biggest offensive quarter in the fourth as well.

The Buffaloes will be able to work through an extended break, not getting back on the court for a contest until December 11 when they host Livingston High. West will open the Lodi Tournament against Beyer today in Lodi.
