Orpha A. Guilford passed peacefully in her sleep on November 29, 2012 just two months shy of her 100th birthday, at Valley Comfort in Modesto. The former Orpha Mae Adams was born January 29, 1913 in San Bruno. She and her identical twin Viola were the first set of twins born in that city. Orpha was raised in San Francisco and Oakland. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 70 years, the late William W. Guilford, her twin sister Viola Anderson and her son Greggory W. Guilford.

She is survived by her daughter Billie J. Nelson and husband Carrol of Manteca, three grandchildren, Karl Nelson and wife Nora of Livermore, Kirsten Juinio and husband Bryan of Fresno, and Lorna Fichter and husband Dave of Truckee, seven great-grand children, Han, Kai, and Athena Nelson, Kayley, Kayden and Ashlyn Juinio, and Abram Fichter.

Orpha taught elementary school for 25 years in Oakland before retiring and moving to South Lake Tahoe for 12 years, then to Palm Desert for 11 years and finally settled near family in Manteca.

While living in Manteca she volunteered as a pink lady at St. Dominic’s Hospital. She also made newborn baby bibs for the hospital. She enjoyed traveling, sewing, gardening, doing puzzles and spending time with family.

She was loved dearly and will be deeply missed!
